SRI Executive Director

Kari Thierer

Kari is the director of SRI and has had the privilege of supporting the growth of the organization since 2012.

Kari began teaching at the age of 22, with students who were 18-21. Kari’s students quickly helped her learn when lessons fell flat and helped push her to rethink what teaching and learning should look like. She came into the work of SRI as a classroom teacher, utilizing protocols in her classroom to create a strong learning community for her students. The relationships built through authentic work with both students and adults changed her teaching practice, and cemented her belief that collaboration and reflection are key to making sure all students are successful.

Kari has taken this learning into her ongoing professional work, and has dedicated her entire career to creating the schools that all students deserve. She strongly believes that school systems are inequitable and is committed to disrupting this inequity.

When she isn’t thinking about students and schools, Kari enjoys gardening, taking her dog for long walks and spending time with her large extended family. She is currently trying to perfect her Dutch apple pie baking skills – experimenting with crumble toppings. Feel free to email her your recipes or ideas! Kari lives with her family in Lacey, WA.

National Office Coordinator

Heidi Vosekas

Heidi Vosekas provides administrative and programmatic support as the National Coordinator and Office Manager of School Reform Initiative. Heidi is a native Hoosier (Indiana!) but currently lives in Lakewood, CO with her 13 year old daughter, Cecilia, her partner, Richard, and their little Chihuahua, Trixie. Oh, and they have two cats too. Heidi has worked in the non-profit field for 16 years and has been with SRI since its formation in 2009.

Heidi’s liberal arts background with a B.A. in sociology and anthropology from Earlham College prepared her well for the transformational learning work SRI does in schools and with educators.  Her passions for gardening, the outdoors, travel, reggae music, social justice and her kid have meant she has so far led a personal and professional life filled with a sense of adventure, grounded in commitment to the earth and its people. Heidi can often be found doing projects around her house or dreaming of building off the grid homes in the mountains and on the beach.

Technology Support Specialist

Chris Jones

Chris Jones is the person SRI relies on for technology, web, and design needs and questions.

A degree in Sociology/Anthropology from Earlham College and experience in web and print publishing got him a decent dishwashing job. He initially started working with the SRI network just to stop washing dishes. He has stayed for 14 years because he came to care so much for and be inspired by the passionate individuals in our network and the good work that we all do. His early background in outdoor education made him feel connected to SRI practice immediately and he cherishes opportunities to facilitate active ice breakers.

In his spare time Chris works on and sometimes gets to drive old cars and motorcycles. He also has fun cooking, baking, reading, watching bad movies, and hanging out with his old tiny dog. He lives close to his brother in Lawrence, Kansas.

Professional Development Specialist

Beth I Graham

Beth fell in love with SRI critical friendship when she first learned the work 20 years ago.  Since then, she’s used SRI practices and principles to grow her own practice as teacher and school leader, and to develop collaborative and reflective communities of adult learners in schools and other professional settings.

Beth chooses to continue to learn about white privilege and how it serves to maintain the status quo of disequity in organizations and institutions.

Beth loves to travel and play near the ocean.  Ask her about her dogs, her golf game, and her most recent passion, building homes with Habitat for Humanity.
